New Facilitation Training Generates Excitement

“The Facilitation Center’s Meeting Management & Facilitation Skills Workshop has always been an opportunity to learn how to plan and facilitate productive meetings, that people actually enjoy, but this year’s workshop exceeded our expectations,” said Center director Karen Russell. Russell explained the Center recently revised the training to modify and reenergize the Center’s certificate program. This introductory level session included new instruction on dealing with difficult participants, strategically utilizing agendas, incorporating visuals for more effective meetings, and creative brainstorming. “These additions were a huge success and really energized the participants,” said Russell. The workshop still incorporated signature experiential components, including opportunities to practice facilitation techniques in an actual facilitated meeting. This year’s participants were enthusiastic about the additional components and shared that the workshop was a “very informative and fun course that provides you with a really valuable skill for life.”

The two-day workshop wrapped up Sept. 21 with enthusiastic participants ready to put their new skills to use. One participant shared, “This course provided a great foundation for meeting facilitation. I can’t wait to put it in action!” A 2011 attendee also advised future participants to “be ready to move around!” Russell explained this training is “highly interactive because we model a myriad of facilitation techniques to keep participants engaged and to also  demonstrate how meetings can be efficient, effective and enjoyable!”

The new format and material were a huge success and the workshop continues to be a highly recommended professional development opportunity because of its effectiveness. As one participant summarized, “It was a great workshop if you want better participation in meetings and better results after the meeting concludes.”
